  1. With very few exceptions, you have to come with your own prepared monologue.  The advantage to this is you can select one that showcases you the best.

Do not write one; there are plenty of sources for short monologues.

  2. Don't write one!  Anything you write is almost certainly not going to be as good as something you can find in an already-published play.  Go in with a couple of choices memorized.  Then if they have a specific one they'd like for you to do, you do that one.  But be prepared with a couple of different kinds of monologues and keep them short -- 1 minute

  3. i would suggest having a monologue memorized regardless! usually they will tell you what you need to have prepared for auditions. if they don't, then simply be prepared. if you show up and they have you read, you can always say, "hey, in case you want to see something else, i have a monologue prepared...". it shows you're willing to work hard, are prepared, and eager.

  4. If the audition notice says they want a monologue, they want you to bring one that you have prepared.  There are lots of collections of audition monologues out there, in books and on line, and you can select one you like, and learn it exactly as it's written.

If they don't say to prepare a monologue they probably want you to read from a script.  But if you're interested in acting it's always a good idea to have a couple monologues ready to go.
