Do I have to disable/remove the Integrated Graphics card driver..?

(VIA/S3G Unichrome Pro IGP) before I install my new AGP graphics card (Geforce 6200), or will the driver software that comes with the AGP card do that for me?

I have read on the internet that you don't have to diable/remove the INTERGRATED graphics driver as the new AGP driver will automatically become the primary card/driver. Is this true?

Forgive me, I'm not computer savvy. Cheer!

  2. if you have onboard graphics card. disable it from motherboard bios. then install the new one. restart your computer. if your new graphics card is plug and play. it will not ask to install the software driver

  3. If you install the card and the drivers then you can un-install the old drivers at your leisure

  4. hi mate

all graphic and display adapters come with their own drivers so yes you need to go to add/remove programs and remove the VIA/S3G Unichrome Pro IGP drivers and then restart the p.c

then after you have restarted the p.c you can then fit your new graphic card,it should automatically change the bios settings so the agp card is the primary display adapter, however if it doesnt and you have no display from your new card then you need to go into the bios and

    a) disable the onboard graphics by going to intergrated peripherals>onboard pci device setup>disable onboard video

b)go to "advanced bios features" and change the "init display first to "agp" from "onboard video"

after this remember to "save and exit setup" to save the changes made to the cmos

then when the pc boots ignore any windows driver massages for the new geforce 6200,just cancel and prompts and go to http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_175.1... and download the latest GeForce Release 175 WHQL

after installing this driver restart your pc and when windows has finished loading configure your personal display settings(resolution, refresh rate) and your done

              any problems let me know

                         good luck mate !

  5. You will have to disable it before fitting new card,Otherwise you will have conflict.

  6. Depends on your system. Its usually a good idea to enter your BIOS and disable your onboard card if you're installing a dedicated card, to avoid conflicts.

  7. i would uninstall the drivers, but i didn't deactive the intergrated graphics when i upgraded, just plugged and played

  8. Believe what you have read, or do you not believe me either?
