Question:

Do I have to get a layered hair cut to get body?

I have long straight hair. It is very fine, soft and straight.

The length goes to my elbows approx. It is all one length.

I want to have some body and curl and waves.

Do I need to layer my hair to get the body in it?

I also think I should get a product for the roots to lift - does anyone know of a good one?

  1. The best thing for you to do is get some layers, how ever far u want it thats where you start it... if you want the puff go for a shampoo that has body and volume... hair products dont work most of the time unless you use the shampoo too..

  2. The answer to your question is no; you do not have to get a layered cut to get some body. In a department store near you maybe even in your grocery store if you go to where all the hair things are you will find volumizing mousse, volumizing spray, and volumizing root lifter hair spray. Depending on how you style your hair you can choose between those products. The key word is "volumizing" anything that uses that word should add great body to your hair. I hope this helps!

  3. No you dont need to get it cut layered. but what you can do is get it perminatly wavy or curly and it will have alot of body and your hair will look beautiful! especailly since its soo  long!

  4. Getting a few layers put in will help a lot.

Yeah you can get volumizing products but they tend to just lift the roots so with your hair being so long the majority of it will stay flat.

You don't need the layers to be very short if you are worried about having your hair cut.

Layers can also help when curling the hair, when the hair is all one length the curls all tend to go the same way (if you know what i mean) and loosen quicker because the hair is so long and heavier than somewhat shorter hair.

  5. Layers are the best on straight long hair like yours. Soft, fine

hair tends to have more bounce in it that edgy-dead straight hair, so layering your hair is definitley going to give your hair some bounce. If you like, try using a volume enhancing shampoo and conditioner, followed with some hand scrunching on your towel-dried hair with conditioning mousse to add to your new improved do! Go ahead try it...... layers are easy to grow out if you don't like them too!

  6. Get some good salon brand mousse.

Wash your hair, condition with a good rinse out conditioner. Towel dry your hair. Squirt a handful of the mousse in your hands and pat hands together. Distribute through your hair and comb through with a wide tooth comb. Now, flip your head over and blow dry your hair til dry and flip upright. Your hair will have more body. You can also wrap your DRY hair in a sophist-o-twist for a few hours to get beautiful loose waves and body. To hold the wave, use a volume hair spray like s**y Hair Spray and Play.
