  1. One never HAS to give two weeks notice. Its simply nicer and looks better if you use them as a reference in the future.

  2. You never HAVE to, it's just more of a courtesy so a replacement can be found.........

  3. If you want to exercise your rights under FMLA (The Family and Medical Leave Act), including the right to return to your job, you do have to give 30 days notice if your disability is foreseeable.

See this link from the Department of Labor:

    http://www.dol.gov/dol/allcfr/ESA/Title_...

Obviously, not every disability is foreseeable 30 days in advance, but something like elective surgery or a pregnancy is, and you should give the required notice.

  4. I would.  you can say that you are doing so because you don't want them to not be able to replace you, but if you get better within the 2 weeks, you will call and help cover your shift - if they still need help at that time.  I think they would appreciate this.  good luck.

  5. What do you mean by notice and what do you mean by disability.  If you were injured at work, you need to file a workers comp claim with your employer.  If you are planning on using your federal leave rights (FMLA,) you need to notify your employer of that fact as well.  But, if you just want to walk out the door and not look back, there's no law saying you have to give your employer any notice.  It's customary, but not required, to give an employer at least two weeks notice; sometimes, more time is needed if you don't want to leave the employer high and dry.
