Do I have to have a data plan for moto Q?

i just bought a motorola Q off ebay i have U.S cellular will i still be able to text and call people like a normal cell if i don't have a data plan?

You should be able to do those things without much trouble but you will not be able to do picture messaging, ringtones, or anything data related
