  1. No -- your fax can share your main phone line using a splitter. There a variety of products which detect the incoming signal from a fax machine and then re-direct and incoming fax to your machine. The only issue is that you cannot use the voice line when send or receiving a call. You can also set up your answering service to respond to a fax when you're not at home.

  2. You still need a phone line even your old one will do,but it must be a working phone line.

You can use the phone and fax together if you wish. But to do that  you can call a person then tell them to call that number at a certin time, BUT dont pick it up when it rings .The fax machine will pick it up for you.

    Hope this helps.

  3. you do not need a special line for the fax machine unless you want to have a phone number just for fax calls. Many times, a fax shares the voice line, and sometimes you can put a fax on "distictive ring" and use a fax switch.

The switch detects the fax tones and selects the fax machine before you even know a call came in.
