  1. you can cancel it while off the road you will not lose your no claims, but it must be off the road not parked in the street, and god hope it does not happen if it is stolen while not insured you will not get a penny

    regards x kitti x

  2. HELLO

    NO

IF ITS PARKED ON THE HIGHWAY IT MUST HAVE MIN OF

    THIRD PARTY ONLY

THOUGH THE CAR WOULD THEN NOT BE COVERED  IF IT IS STOLEN AND OR SET ON FIRE

    NEXT WOULD BE

    THIRD PARTY FIRE AND THEFT

THE CAR WOULD THEN BE COVERED IF STOLEN AND OR SET ON FIRE

IF THE CAR WILL BE PARKED OFF THE HIGHWAY THEN YOU CAN ALSO CLAIM BACK THE ROAD TAX UNLESS YOU ARE TAX EXEMPT

IF YOUR CAR IS OFF THE ROAD

DOES THIS MEAN OFF THE PUBLIC HIGHWAY?

IF SO YOU CAN CLAIM BACK ANY FULL MONTHS TAX REMAINING (SCORN)

You can claim a refund of vehicle tax if you’re taking your vehicle off the road, selling it or if it’s been scrapped, exported or stolen. You can get a refund for each full month still to run on the tax disc at the time you apply.

    When to apply

The tax disc and refund application must be posted to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) in Swansea or handed into your nearest DVLA local office before the first day of the month you are claiming.

You must not apply for a refund if your vehicle is in the process of having its registration number transferred or retained.

How to apply for a refund with a tax disc

To get a refund you’ll need:

    a completed form V14 ‘refund/SORN application’

    the tax disc

to send the form and disc to Refund Section, DVLA, Swansea SA99 1AL

If you take your vehicle off the road, when you remove the tax disc, you’ll also need to make a SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification) on the V14 refund form, as the vehicle will no longer be taxed.

  3. You are probably better off keeping it as it is, as most insurance companies will charge at least £25 to make any amendments to your policy, so you will be looking at £50 just to change it to 3rd party and back again.  Legally you don't need any insurance if the car is off the road but best to have at least 3rd party.

  4. If your vehicle is off the road for 3 months, there is no reason to carry liability or collision. But, comprehensive coverage will take care of your vehicle in the event that it could be stolen, damaged by flood, hail, etc.  Most people keep comprehensive on a vehicle in storage that they value.

  5. Whilst you don't have to carry such insurance while the vehicle is off the road, most insurance companies won't give you the pro-rata refund you might otherwise expect.

Talk to the insurance company and ask them how much, if any refund you might get.

You may wish to consider some form of theft cover.

You can reclain the road tax and declare your vehicle as SORN, provided that you don't put it on the road.

    Hepe this helps.

  6. I am not able to totally make sure my answer is fit for your situation. It could be useful anyway,it would better you check out yourself here.http://car-insurance.online-tips.info/ca...

  7. As long as the car is completely off the road, i.e. on private property, you do not legally need any insurance at all.

However, common sense dictates that you DO maintain cover, as it's still vulnerable to being vandalised, stolen, damaged by fire, falling trees or whatever.

    Wish you a speedy recovery.

  8. if it is on private ground you could get your insurance to "hold" the insurance for 3 months, but the car would be at your own risk.
