Question:

Do I have to link a card to my PayPal account?

I've just recently set up a PayPal account and confirmed the bank account was in fact mine (entering the two amounts they deposit to your account) and it said on my to-do list I was required to lift my limits. To do this I have to link a card to my account. I've entered the bank card details and just need to find out the two amounts they have charged my card and tell PayPal these but my question is ... do I have to wait until this is done before I can start using my account or can I start purchasing items using PayPal now?

  1. yes

  2. You can pay through your PayPal account now.

As your bank details are on the account , PayPal will take money from your bank by direct debit for any purchases (and payments) that you make.

Lifting the limit...... Your PayPal account initially has sending and receiving limits (which is all to do with  money laundering - unfortunately we all get caught up in that because of the rogues that are around).

Once you hit that sending/receiving limit, you have to become 'verified' to lift those limits.  It's easier for you to do this in advance, otherwise you can suddenly find yourself in the position of being unable to pay for a purchase, not because you don't have the money, but because you are blocked by PayPal until you are 'verified'.

Most sellers will understand this but some will think you're trying it on and want to back out of the sale.

It saves a whole lot of hassle to do it well in advance of when you actually need to, so it's no bad thing that you're doing it now.
