  1. Don't use travellers cheques.  I did when I went to Europe and had alot of trouble cashing them.  Take some cash, a credit card, adn a ATM/Debit card,  You'll get a good rate of exchange using your credit and debit cards.

  2. Do you have a visa debit card with a cirrus or maestro symbol?  Most places in the Euro zone accept debit cards in shops/restaurants and you can withdraw cash at bank ATM machines. Saves the hassle of changing travellers cheques. I'm in Ireland and I used my debit card in the UK and France recently.

If you do want travellers cheques you have to order them at your bank or post office (I think).

  3. Normally you get traveller's cheques at a bank or financial institution.

However, it's much easier and cheaper to simply use your ATM card at the ATM machines in the countries you visit. If you have Cirrus, Maestro, Plus, or any of those, you will be fine. But you should check with your bank before you go, and tell them that you're going, so that they can do the security thing also. You get the local currency, and the equivalent value is debited from your bank account at home. Much safer than carrying lots of cash.

  4. Yes they have to be ordered so that your name can be printed on them but why would you want them in the first place? They are designed to make money for others and not to save you any money. There is a charge when you buy them and again when you cash them in and some places wont even accept them.

I take cash with me on holiday and carry it in a body belt then hire a safe wherever I'm staying and have never had any problems.
