Hi! I have been having a bit of a problem, as 2 month ago I have been in a car accident, where the fault wasn't mine and I was the driver. But the thing is that there was no second car involved. That was a car defect or smth. So after a car accident I have been taken to a hospital, where I spent couple hours as the injury wasn't so serious. A month later I get a bill for about 3000$. And then people from hospital call me and tell me that I have to pay it. But I had medical coverage on the time of an accident, which the hospital isn't able to see-they say that I didn't, although I have all the documents proving the opposite. And one more thing-I'm an international student in US and don't have any credit history. Besides, during the accident I have been on the child medical coverage, which is given when u r under 19-I don't really know if it plays a big role, but I can't and simly don't want to pay the med. charges-because I was paying for my med. ins. Please help me out on this one.Tnx

  1. I would talk to a lawyer.

  2. If you had medical coverage at the time of the accident, you must do two things:  Notify your insurance company and then give the insurance information to the hospital so they can bill your insurance.

  3. This is something you have to discuss with your insurance company.  Call them.

  4. You don't HAVE to do anything - but eating will help you live - paying taxes will help keep you out of IRS trouble - and paying the hospital bills will keep them off your back

My attorney told me to pay my bills & they totaled near $3k on my accident (not my fault)  - honestly it wasn't money we could afford to pay on this man's irresponsibility in hitting my car - but they are MY bills - no one else's.

PS Medical insurance or NOT - the bills are yours - Your insurance company likely declined payment for the auto accident - mine did.

ETA: En's information is false & uninformed - I spoke to my attorney about that & hospitals will not bill that way -They will NOT bill a 3rd party (the insurance co of the person who hit you) -  You sign a form when you ENTER the hospital that lets you know YOU will be billed - now maybe that's a local thing - I live in Missouri & that is where my attorney practices - Maybe in some other state they will bill a 3rd party - but like I said it depends - -

  5. First. contact your insurance company to find out how to submit the claim.  If you did already submit the claim, call and find out why it was denied.  It may just be a mistake as to why it was denied.  If you really feel it was a car defect, contacting a lawyer would be the way to go.  Also I believe as long as you are paying something even $5.00 a month on the bill it will not effect your credit.  This is for medical bills only.
