Question:

Do I have to pay the excess on my fully comprehensive insurance if there was no damage at all to my vehicle?

Had a very small bump in my car by reversing into another! Not good. My car was completely fine and didnt even have a scratch but the flimsy thing that I hit had a badly dented front wing and cracked lights. Im fully comp on my insurance. Will I have to pay the excess and will I loose my no claims or does this only happen if my car was in need of repair too?

Someone with inside knowledge would be great!

Cheers

  1. No you do not have to pay the deductible as the damage to the other person's would be covered under your liability section. Yes you will lose any claims free discount, unless your insurer offers a claims free bonus.

  2. Good experience you might get here.

  3. Unfortunately if you are at fault you have to pay the excess.

Whether you lose your no claim bonus depends on you policy. Same offer no loss of no claims after you've had the maximum for a certain amount of time.

  4. You don't pay the excess unless you're claiming off your insurance. In your case, the person you crashed into is claiming off your insurance, so you don't pay. You will lose your no claims though, unless they're protected.... and if you decide to get your car repaired through your insurance, then you have to pay the excess.
