Question:

Do I have to refinance?

My husband skipped the country and left me with two auto loans: One we jointly shared and one that was in his name alone. He did sign over to me the title to the one that was solely in his name. The divorce decree awarded me both vehicles.

Would I have to do a refinance or could I possibly trade the other car in for something else without taking on the loan? Also, would it be possible to get the loans transferred to my name without a refinance? My bank has been skirting around my questions and haven't gotten a solid answer from them yet. Thank you very much for any advice.

  1. You can continue to make the payments. Since you have a court order awarding you the vehicles you can do as you wish with them. You may want to have an attorney write the bank a letter, as this will get a quicker response.
