Question:

Do I have to report to jury duty?

In October I received a summons for jury duty but couldn't do it because of school. Luckily I got deferred so now I have jury duty this Monday 7/21/08. They said to check a website or call before the day I scheduled to appear. I checked out the website and it says "Jurors from group number 32 with a four digit jury number of 0632 and higher are excused from jury duty. If you have been postponed into this date you must also report." I'm in that group and my number was 0698. So am I excused and don't have to go or because I was deferred I have to go?

  1. Your excused so you don't have to.

  2. Generally, If your a no show, its jail for you, BUT, if you contact the court and give a compelling reason as too why you cannot do it, sometimes they will dismiss you from it, but its rare.

dont ignor them whatever you do, its not that bad anyways to attend jury duty.

  3. The second part of the notice says it all.  I would go down there.  You def dont want a deputy sheriff showing up at your door dragging you down to the court house in your bathrobe for jury duty.

  4. You have to go.

    It's not really that bad.

  5. Call and ask. Better to be safe than sorry.

  6. Go and show up and have the court say officially that they don't need you now. Better to be safe then picked up by the Sheriff.

  7. Better safe than sorry. Once I was sceduled for duty at a time when I needed to testify in an assault trial! I still had to show up and get an exemption.

  8. I believe you should go and get it over with.  If you really don't want to serve and you are reasonably intelligent you can answer a question in such a manner that you get thrown off.  Seen it happen a lot of times.

  9. This here means you need to go "If you have been postponed into this date you must also report."

  10. Call them and find out.  If you do have jury duty and don't go, I don't think the whole "I didn't know" is going to work well with them. They can get very serious about jury duty.

  11. The key phrase is the second one...Ïf you have been postponed..."

You'll have to report...unless you can come up with a doctor's note saying you're about to die, and good luck on that...most doctors don't like facing possible felony charges.

Sorry...part of the price for living in a Free Society.

    Good Luck!

PS: Look on the bright side...they may excuse you for any or no reason in the selection process! :D

  12. I'd go if were you.

  13. Note: If you have been postponed into this date you must also report, is after the part excusing the jurors in the second half of the pool. That is the part applying to you. not the first part. If you do not show then you "will have a bench warrant issued for your arrest" The Judge will call it contempt of court and without any kind of trial or appeal can award 3 to 90 days in jail which you will serve! Jury duty is one of the few Constitutionally defined responsibilities  and Judges take it seriously. Report on time in approved clothing.

  14. Just don't go.......sheriff will find you sooner or later.  Why participate in American freedoms?

  15. nahh tell them to do it themselves they don't pay enough

  16. You must report. Key phrase is "if you have been postponed into this date". If you don;t report, they will issue a warrant for your arrest. Just go, it's no big deal.

  17. You must report - better now and not when school starts again!

  18. Call and find out!  However, don't skip out on your jury duty.  Most states take a dim view of that!

  19. If you are deferred to go then you will not have to show up.  But just in case you should contact the court systems just to be sure.  Hope this helps.

  20. I would say you don't have to report. You could alway call the court to find out too.

  21. Jury Duty for you.  Really you should go anyway.  Take a book and get ready to learn something new that we should all experience once in a life time.

  22. Just keep checking the website or call the phone number. If your

group number is not called by Friday of that week you are off the hook. However, if they call your group number you need to show up the next day.

  23. Of course you have to go.  Now, will you be selected is another question that only time can tell.

  24. Call and find out.

  25. Collect all the costumejewelry you can find and put it on, then go in with all that jewelry and a big hat, and walk around saying, "I'm here for jewelry duty. Put on all my jewelry for jewelry duty."  They'll dismiss you soon.
