Do I have to return the old check to receive the new one?

Ok after my stimulus got lost in the mail from address changes, they stopped the payment on it and said they will be sending a new one, and told me to send in the old check after i received it almost 2 months later, but does anyone know if they have to receive the old check in order to send me the new one?

(im on hold with the IRS now, it takes a billion hours for you to talk to a person)

They'll send you the new one without waiting for the old one.  But if you ever do get the original one, do NOT try to cash it, just send it back.
