Do I have to send in my passport for a visa to go to China?

I have a job offer from a modeling company that will take me all over the world to be a model at the formula one races, grand prix, etc. They are telling me that they can get the visas for these places I have to travel to without me sending them my passport. All I do is fill out the visa form, send two passport photos, and then they do the rest. Is that even possible? I thought I had to send in my passport for a visa? Is it different when a company is involved?

Submit your passport to the Chinese embassy for attachment of the visa.

that is possible.......... the visa can be a label or a stamp in your passport however and in some cases the visa is given separately....so don't worry

When I got my Chinese visa, I had to send my passport to the embassy - it came back with the visa as one of the pages in the Passport. I am from UK though, so it may be different

Internet scams, fraudulent document schemes, and international trafficking all come to mind.  It is virtually impossible to get a visa without submitting your passport - this sounds like a scam to 1) get your photo, and  2 ) get your personal information.  I would advise against it, for a host of reasons.

yes it is possible to get a visa without sending your passport

in some countries for example: When I applied for a Visa to Senegal I just filled out some basic information and then received the visa by fax. It was a letter from the minister stating that I'm allowed to enter the country, brought it with me to the airport and my passport was stamped.

But you can only do so if you have the right connections in that country.
