I just bought a new netgear wireless router (first wireless router) and I want to set it up in my house so I can have wireless internet in my house. If I set it up at my house will I have to set it up again when I move into my dorm. And if so would it be better to just wait till I move out. (I move out in a month and a half)

  1. All of the settings will be saved, so you won't need to change anything.

  2. By set up yes u will have to plug all the cables in but that is all, u should be able to just plug the router into the Ethernet port in your dorm room and the router will automatically pick up the new IP settings everything else should stay the same. So go ahead and set it up at home.

  3. Check with your local campus IT help desk and get their procedure for setting up a wireless router on the campus network.  They may already have a campus-wide wi-fi network in place, in which case you probably won't need your router.

Check out the website for your school.

Below is a link for the University of Oregon.

  4. You don't have to setup it again unless you want to change your configuration like the password and other security since you are in a semi public place.
