Question:

Do I have to show proof that I was in Jury Duty?

I am scheduled to attend Jury Duty next week but I have something very important to do and I don't have the time accrued to take the day off. If I tell my boss that I had Jury Duty would I have to show proof that I was there or does the court give me something to take back to work? If not then how can make this fly? Thanks in Advance!

  1. The court should give you something to take to work as proof you were there. Of course you want to call your boss and let them know that is where you will be and that you will bring documentation from the courts.

  2. You should go to jury duty. Chances are you will get excused and be able to do"something very important" without having to lie or be deceitful. If you don't get excused, you will be doing something more important than whatever it is you think you have to do - your civic duty.

The company you work for may have a policy that you bring back something to show you went. Where I worked, you brought in the jury duty pay ($15) check and they paid me my regular day's wages.

A second option is that you actually have something very important for you to do. Contact the county office that sent you a notice and see if you can reschedule. Then, take the day off without pay.

It is easier to tell the truth; lying is too hard to remember what was said to whom and sooner or later, you get caught.
