Do I have to stand on line if my USPS envelope has a printed label?

I started to sell on ebay. I will be printing my labels at home to ship via USPS. I am selling small clothing items. Do I need to stand on line to give it to the clerk or can I just drop it in the mailbox? I am using a large flat envelope for shipping.

  1. You can use any USPS Collection Box or Mail Drop for your items. One thing to watch though, since you are printing labels online.

If you are using the Ebay/Paypal Shipping Label application, they will automatically include Delivery Confirmation. If you are using Delivery Confirmation on First Class Mail, the item must be classified as a Parcel. You can not use DC on First Class Letters or Flats.

To qualify your items as a Parcel, it would simply need to be more than 3/4" at some point, or lumpy.

I would also recommend against using a plain manila type of envelope to ship clothing items. That type of envelope is not really strong enough.

  2. If you have correct postage, and the envelope is a standard size (presumably it is, if you bought it at an office supply or stationery store) then you are good.  You would have to weigh the package accurately to be sure to have correct postage, but once you know the weight you can find out how much it would cost on the USPS site (use the postage calculator online tool).
