  1. no.... but i would reccomend it! if i wanted to be a fashion designer i would take every art class (including sewing) that my school offered!

  2. No,but you should..

  3. No, some high schools don't even offer that. But if yours does then you should take advantage of that. Not everyone has that opportunity. And it's not like it can hurt you, it can only increase your chances of getting into a good fashion school, you know?

  4. You probably should -- at least so that you're familiar with construction.  You want to make sure your designs are functional -- sewing experience will help tell you this.

Also, the designs used in clothing construction can greatly affect the cost of constructing the garment.  For instance, a certain type of pocket or zipper may add several steps to the construction -- upping the cost.  A good designer would be aware of this and would make wise choices.

Taking art is a good idea -- you want to be able to sketch your ideas well enough so that someone else can look at them and understand what your design should look like.

  5. If you already know how to follow a pattern and sew, then no.  But if you don't, you're going to have to learn someplace!  "Designers" also need to know how garments are constructed, whqt makes it fit right, how to fit the garment to different figures, what looks good on all different kinds of figures, what kinds of fabrics to use to achieve the look you're going for...  There's tons! of stuff to know and know HOW to do it yourself, not just drawing designs on paper.
