Question:

Do I have to take summer clothes for a holiday in London?

I saw that the temperature now in London are not hot, but about 16-20 centigrades. I'm going to London on the 12th of August, for about a week. Do you advice me to take t-shirts or warmer clothes? I just ask to some Londoners... also from 11am to 4pm, is it a bit cold... ?

Thank you for your help.

  1. My advice would be to bring half and half, the weather here is a joke!! One day will be hot and then the next it will be raining, its really unpredictible! Hope you enjoy your trip!

  2. i live in london you can take t-shirts you will need jacket but do not take shorts it is to cold

  3. Yes you'll need summer clothes, just don't pay too much attention to the the weather forecast temperature, it's never right anyway.  Other thing is, that historically, London has always received less rain than the city of Rome.

And, yes it does rain, but not all that often.

The link below gets you the weather forecast for London over the next few days.

If you want to have a check up on London's weather, I find the best way of doing that is to visit the Webcam at Trafalgar Square. . .

  4. Hey!!

I live in London, and the weather hasn't been good for the last few days. We have had Thunder and Lightening  with some rain. The temperature varies here quite alot but I suggest you bring a mixture of summer/Warmer clothes as the weather is quite unpredictable. But theres no need to bring a big Coat or anything like that. Just bring something light as even though it rains, it is still quite humid (warm/hot)

Anyways hope this helps and Enjoy your stay!!

    PS. DON'T FORGET YOUR BROLLY!!

  5. If you're from America or similarly hot countries then you'll likely be cold unless it's at it's hottest here then you may be comfortable. Like most new places you should pack for a variety of weather just in case....at least take a jumper and coat with you.

Btw...you should come to Wales....it's much nicer....we've got sheep's and hills and green stuff and castles oh my. ^_^

  6. The weather in London this week has been so changeable for this time of year - we've had sunshine, showers, absolute downpours and one night a big lightening storm!

If you are doing a Tourist Trip (lots of walking about, using The Underground) then wear a t-shirt but take a light jumper, something you can put on / tie round waist as necessary.  From 11-4 the weather, well, it can be doing anything really - yesterday was really hot, today quite breezy.

Oh, always best to bring an umbrella too!

Some amazing places to visit in London - if you are near London Bridge you must visit Borough Market (only Thur, Fri and Sat). An incredible food market!!

    Have fun!

  7. I'd take a couple pairs of jeans, pants, t-shirts, maybe some long shorts, and definatley a hoodie or a sweater. The weather is being quite unpredictable at the moment, one minute theres thunderstorms, the next its warm and rainy.

I'd take a mix of everything really, spring-summer type clothes.

    =] Have a nice time.

  8. Also, bear in mind that what temperature you are accustomed to will make a huge difference.

I remember returning to London from a Mediterranean holiday once. It was 27 centigrade in London - ridiculously hot for the UK. But because we had just come from a place where it was in the high 30s and occasionally low 40s, we were shivering as if it were midwinter.

Be prepared for a significant change in temperature when you first arrive, and dress as if you are still accustomed to where you just came from, regardless of what's normal for London.

If you are here more than a week though, pack half and half.

  9. wouldnt bet on it! Londons rarely hot. It depends where you live though, if you live in Britain you would be used to our climate, if not bring mostly warm clothes
