Question:

Do I have to tear up my whole Yard?!?

there are 'vine-like' things ALL over my yard!! they pull out just like weeds!

We just moved in and I'm trying to get the yard looking nice.

I've never had my own yard, so I'm confused as to how to do so.

I am going to spary weed and feed, then rake it up. But do I have to take up all the yard and start fresh???

The grass is dead so I was going to fertilize after raking up dead weeds..

then put down grass seed.

Does this seem right to you for Michigan????

Please help me out

  1. the guy down the street from me had the best lawn and then one spring i saw him burning his grass. Like he litterally set it on fire. Then it would grow back and be beautiful... He fertilized it and watered it alot.

    go figure

  2. you dont want to fertilize after weed and feed because you are already fertilizing with the feed. you want to wait to put grass seed down for a couple of weeks after you spray weed and feed otherwise it will just kill grass seed. just try watering the grass first.

  3. With undesirable plants that "take over" you need to remove all the vegetation as well as all the roots or you need to sterilize the ground with herbicides.  The herbicides need to be flushed from the soil after they have done their job.  Follow the direction on the package to know the specifics for your product.  Then you will want to till some compost or manure into the top 4-6" of the soil before planting grass.  You will be covering the grass seed with peat moss then keep it moist for about 2 weeks until the grass emerges.  So you may want to wait for cooler weather, but you don't want to wait too long so the grass has established itself before winter.  Check with your local nursery to see what they recommend for your area.
