Question:

Do I have to tell where I work?

I had a car that was repossessed. Long story but I bought it for my daughter and she stopped paying on it. Anyway, I know since it's in my name I am responsible for whatever is owed on it. I am going to call them today to set up payment arrangements. What I am wondering is do I have to tell them where I work? I know they are going to ask and I don't really want to tell them because I don't want them harrassing me later if I am ever late paying or something. Can I refuse to tell them and also do they have a way of finding out where I work?

  1. No they have no right to demand your work information. All that information is used for is collection practices when the debt goes unpaid. By supplying a creditor or collection company this info you are opening yourself to harassment & embarrasment.

I suggest only communicating by mail

  2. Yes, they may do a credit report on you, honesty is the best policy, and good luck.

  3. I don't know if you have to tell them - they can easily find out - if you fall behind in paying, they cannot contact you at your job - if they do it one time, explain that they may not contact you at that number again, if they do it after that, contact your local state attorney's office and file a complaint.
