Do I have to use an HDMI cable for only HD?

or can i use it to send Standard Deffinition to my HDtv

  1. HDMI carries standard def video as well as 720, 1080. I just saw "I Love Lucy" on my HD cable box - in standard def over HDMI.

    It also carries 1.0 sound (mono) and up to 7.1.

  3. you can use it for standard definition (sd) I assume your speaking of the connection between your cable box and monitor?

  4. Standard definition devices don't have HDMI ports. There are high definition devices (DVD upscalers and HD cable boxes) that can show both standard and high definition content, and they CAN send standard definition signals to the TV.
