Question:

Do I have to use hot water to make coffee?

The power button on my coffee maker fell off, and I'm really tired of everything breaking. It's like 3 weeks old. If I just pour cold/room temperature water over coffee grounds, will it work just as well, or does it have to be hot water?

  1. no you have to put normal temperature water.

  2. I don't know if it will work but try hot, just put it in a kettle.

  3. You can always buy instant coffee if your coffee maker broke. I usually microwave one mug of coffee for about a minute, add in 1 tsp of coffee, 1 tsp sugar, and 1 tsp whitener. You would be surprised at how good it tastes. But it DOES taste different from the coffee maker, for sure.

  4. It has to be hot, but NOT BOILING water. Just under it. Pour the water onto the ground (must be ground) coffee beans and let it steep like tea for 3 minutes or so, a minute or so more for stronger coffee, but dont let it stay past 5 because it'll likely turn bitter. Then just filter the coffee grounds out and pour.

This is the same principle as a French press, but a french press is much easier to use since it does the filtering for you, and the mesh works up the coffee oils giving it a richer taste. You can find them for less than $10 at IKEA.

  5. If the coffee maker still works, and it heats the water up it is better to use cold water. If you are gonna manually make coffee in it, and it will not heat, then you must use hot water.

Another alternative is you could make coffee like this

If you do not have the spices, or don't want to put them in, then you do not need them, but they taste good with it.

  6. Instant coffee dissolves in cold water almost as well as hot water, but honestly I never tried with regular grounds.

  7. Hot cup of coffee

  8. never use hot water in a cofee maker....

always use cold water like the manufacturer

suggests... hot water will make it taste bitter and horrible,,

and hot water will not make it brew faster.....

  9. You can get the tea bag type bags at the grocery store. Those are pre-measured and actually not very bad. Cheaper then a new coffee pot. The best coffee IMO is from a stainless steel french press coffee pot. Those are hard to break...

  10. MG.

  11. water in a coffee maker is heated before it is dispensed over the coffee grounds so, i would suggest boiling hot water.  i've never done this so don't hold me responsible.  LOL  also, if your coffee maker is only 3 weeks old, take it back, receipt or no receipt, and demand a replacement.

  12. Hot water. It makes the grounds disintegrate better.

  13. Cold  water likely won't work at all.
