Do I have to wait for the rough grade to be finished before installing my deck?

I bought a house recently and since it is brand new, nothing has been completed on the outside as far as lawn and things like that. We were told that our rough grade was going to be finished last week. We went out and purchased a deck package and want to put it together, however now it seems as though the rough grade won't be done for another 3 weeks or so. I want to build my deck now! Do I have to wait for the rough grade to be finished before building my deck? The grade from the house slopes downward away from the back of the house so I can't imagine why I wouldn't be able to have a deck there. They can finish the rough grade around my deck, as long as what's under the deck slopes away from the house.

Does anyone have information on this or suggestions?

p.s. I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

  1. I think you are Ok to go ahead with your deck.

However, before you do I recommend that check with the developer / builder as there may be some warranty issues.
