Does anyone know that if the Petty officer have the power to do the discharge or only the Chief or Commander? Is there any other steps I need to do besides notify my recruiter?

  1. Let your recruiter know, he's the only one that can process the paperwork. He will try to tell you that you can't but you can get out of the DEP program. You can get out of the service all the way up to right before you go to school.

  2. You don't have to do anything except tell your Recruiter that you will not be going (you don't even have to do that) - it is his job to discuss with you what your issue may be, I suggest you sit and talk to them. Once you make your final decision - tell him its final and your done from there. He will forward a Dep Action Request through the chain of command and the CO will approve it, send it to MEPS who will complete the administrative action. You should receive within a week or so afterward a letter stating you have been discharged and your appeal process if you don't agree with it.
