Question:

Do I keep my old bed or should I buy a new one?

For the last week or so, I've been waking up with what appear to be bites the size of mosquito bites, maybe a little bit bigger. My cats don't have fleas, so I've ruled them out. This leads me to believe that my bed has bed bugs in it, but I'm not 100% sure. Plus this bed has been around for a while, although I'm not sure how long exactly--it was my ex-wife's best friend's mom's bed. I'm seriously considering buying a new bed. Any suggestions? If I think of any more details, I will add them.

  1. Yeah, you should get a new bed. Don't know about the bed bugs, but I'd say its time for a new mattress at least.

As far as the bites go you might be having a reaction to the detergent you're using. Sometimes the formula changes and they don't say anything about it.

  2. WELL IT DEPENDS ON HOW GOOD  YOUR BED IS AND HOW LONG YOU'VE HAD IT I KNOW THAT IF YOU COUGH,WHEEZE OR SCRATCH YOU DEFINITELY  HAVE BED BUGS !!!!!

  3. Ex-wife's, best friend's, mom's bed?  Good lord, that thing sounds like it has mileage on it.  Is it lumpy? time to get rid of it.

  4. I don't know a thing about bed bugs, but I've seen a lot of this sort of question. The same people say the same things - its bed bugs.

Here's a long history of bed bugs, as well as how to "detect" them, what bites look like, and how to get rid of them.

It might be nice to rid of them before you go passing them on somewhere else. Get a new bed after, defintely!

Oh, btw, they don't hang out in/on the bed. They hide along pipes and crevices. So, getting rid of the bed isn't going to get rid of the bugs. Got me?

  5. you've had the bed, but you've just moved? So it seems to be a problem with your new house.  Before I would go and spend a lot of money on a new bed, I would def. make sure that it is bedbugs and that you rid the house of them first.  If you don't get the house clear of the bugs then no matter what mattress you bring in, you are still going to have bedbugs.

Also, you might not have to get rid of your mattress just because you have bedbugs.  You can treat for them which might be better cost-wise if you are on a budget.

Check to see if you have bedbugs first.  You can look for them in and around the piping along the edge of the mattress or if you have buttons on your mattress, look under them.  You can also put tape around the edge of your mattress and making sure the blanket does not touch the tape, catch some of them on it during the night.  Or use glue traps or something else to make sure you have bedbugs.  If you can't find any bugs (which you should be able to see if you look in cracks, crevices around mattress and bed), then I doubt it is bedbugs. You might want to check at night with a flashlight.

  6. Yep...get a new one and spray the floor around the room when you take out the old...so you will kill any bugs in there before moving in the new one.

  7. No more details needed. . . .buy a NEW bed!
