Hi Guys - After contracting a nasty virus a while ago I seem to have overdosed on (free)applications that I think will help me. Now I have 4 and I am sure that I dont need them all. They are: Ad-Aware, AVG 7.5, SuperAntiSpyware Free Edition and SuperAntiSpyware. Which of these 4 are the best ones to keep my computer clean? Thanks ;o)

  1. You only need one anti-virus and anti-spyware program, AVG is a good free one but for the anti-spyware I would suggest you check out some of anti-spyware software programs along with a couple other recommended programs:

    -Spyware Doctor with AV (anti-spyware)

or Spybot S&D if you want a free program

    -PC Tools Firewall Plus(free) (firewall)

    -ThreatFire(free) (added virus protection)

-CCleaner(keep computer running pretty good, cleans up history and whatnot)

    -Firefox(safe browser)

All of the above programs(aside Spybot) I use and have been using for a very long time now, all with fantastic results. For Spybot it is pretty good in the way of free protection but Spyware Doctor is my overall recommendation along with McAfee 12 in 1 security center in place of AVG

  2. * Security is a three tier affair, one firewall, one anti-virus and as much adware/spyware removal software as you feel needed?

  3. AVG 7.5 is no longer supported that means no updates, replace it with Avira AntiVir free, detects 94% of viruses and quick scan times, keep superantispyware free, good at detecting trojans, get rid of Ad-Aware its garbage and bloatware, instead get Spyware Doctor Starter Edition, its free large data base and quick scan times, That should be all you need., Good luck.

  4. Just Remember, never use more than one antiVIRUS.

I dont think it matters how many antispyware programs you have.  I have like 4 but I only recommend you let one run constantly.

I use Norton 360 and Spysweeper at the same time.

I also have CounterSpy, Ashampoo antispyware and Windows Defender.

    Good Luck!

  5. In my opinion, ditch all 4 and go for Kaspersky/Nod. Ad-aware  is beats other 2 anti-spyware, so keep that. AVG shows too much false positives.

If you are looking for freeware, get Avira. It served me very well in the past :P
