Do I need a Kodak memory card for a Kodak camera?

I'm getting my friend her birthday present, and she needs a new memory card. She has a Kodak camera, so do I need a memory card that's Kodak brand? Or can I just get a memory card that will fit in her slot? :) That sounds weird.

I have kodak camera and I use a different memory card but after a day or two the pictures erases? Is this because I need a kodak memory card?
