Do I need a LAN card to use a wireless router?

When I try to install the software of the wireless router, my computer cannot detect the wireless router...My computer doesn't have a LAN card but do have a LAN port..so do i still need a LAN card so that I can use the wireless router? Or is there any problem why my computer cannot detect the wireless router? badly need help..thanks

  1. erm.. you need to connect to the router with an RJ-45 which is the cable that fits in the onboard NIC and connect it to the router.. or buy a wireless NIC


  2. No. The LAN port is enough even though you won't be using it. Try getting close to the router and see if you get any signal. If not, then try resetting the router.

    Oh and make sure you have wireless on your computer. Just having a wireless router isn't enough, your computer has to have wireless as well.

  4. There are usually two ways to get internet on your computer or laptop, wired or wireless.

    Wired you would use a LAN or NIC card.  Wireless you would use a wireless card.

    Your computer does not see the wireless router because your computer does not have a wireless card.
