Question:

Do I need a Root Canal?

I am going to be having a root canal tomorrow and I want to make sure that I am making the right decision. I have had extensive orthodontic treatment in the past. Recently I noticed that my #7 tooth is slightly grayer then the rest. I went to my dentist and they took an x-ray and there is a small gray area at the root of that tooth. They referred me to an endodontic; He tested the tooth with a cold test and I could not feel anything cold on my tooth at all. The part about going through this procedure that bothers me the most is that fact that I am currently in ZERO pain. The tooth does not hurt at all, is not sensitive to hot or cold, and does not hurt when I chew on it. The only reason I had my dentist look at it was because of the color. Is it possible that a root canal is unnecessary? Also, I have also been informed that it is much better off and less painful to do the procedure before it becomes infected and inflamed. Is this true? Any advice would be appreciated.

  1. leave it alone. Let the pain come, then you might need a root canal.

  2. yes its true. the tooth is dead. that's why it's dark. It may never hurt but if you don't get it treated it could snap off at the gumline later because dead teeth dont have a blood supply and become brittle. get it done it's the right decision. good luck

  3. If the tooth is grey it is dying.  It is less painful and easier to get a root canal before the tooth gets infected.  There is no guarantee it will become infected, but if it does then you have to take a full course of antibiotics and some pain killers until the dentist can work on it.  Yes, you probably need a root canal.

  4. It sounds like by the x-ray that you have an abscess around the root of your tooth, this means the tooth is dead and you have infection in the bone.  If your all about traditional dentistry then the normal thing to do would be have a root canal and a crown.  If you are all about your health then you should go the holistic approach and have the tooth removed and get a marylin bridge made.  A root canal tooth is always chronically infected even if it doesn't hurt.  You always have a low grade infection going through your body.  We are constantly taking out patients root canal teeth to improve their health.  If interested go to Mercola.com and also buy the root canal cover-up book off amazon.  If you decide to have the root canal, just be aware of your health.  If your health changes and you start getting chronic head aches or arthritic remember your root canal could be causing it.  If you want to research this you should reschedule your appointment for another day.

  5. You should thank God the dentist caught this BEFORE it got infected then you would have pain you can't even imagine. Get that bloomin' root canal done tomorrow!

  6. Yes from the facts stated by you, you surely need the RCT. As you do not have any pain, it can be because your's is chronic case. In this the part of the tooth which feels hot and cold sensation gets degenerated, hence you are not feeling any sensations, but your tooth is infected. It is better if you get the RCT done now otherwise the infection will increase and your tooth can become painful and at that time the prognosis becomes poor.
