  1. I too am a US Citizen and just returned from Mexico.  You are required to have a US passport as of the start of this year.  However, because a surge of applications Homeland Security is allowing travel with proof that you've applied for the passport and can travell without it up to 9/30/07.  HLS may extend this date (if you need the passport sooner than the 6-8 weeks you can expidite it for an additional fee)

You can get all you need on their official website   http://travel.state.gov/

Have fun travelling and definite visit Chichenitza for the Mayan pyramids!

  2. Nope.

    Just your passport.

  3. American citizens don't need visa to visit Mexico; you only need your passport.

Depends on the country you are comming from if you need a visa or not.

  4. I live in Cozumel.

We get a lot of cruise ship passengers that are traveling with only a birth certificate... it ok to have just a birth certificate if you are traveling on a cruise.

If you are flying in, you will need a passport.

If you are a US citizen, you do not need a visa.

  5. no, that's just for people who want to be here in America. all u need is your passport at tops, u can even just get by with you drivers license!

  6. yes, absolutely.  either your birth certificate or your passport.  In today's environment, use a passport.

  7. Simply put... a visa is permission from the country you want to visit to enter their country.  You do not need a visa to visit Mexico.  You will get a tourist card on the plane or ship or at the border if you drive.  It costs about $22.00 U.S.D.   A passport is the ultimate I.D. form given to you by YOUR country to identify you as a citizen when you leave and return to your own country. If you travel to Mexico by land you do not need a passport yet.  If you fly, you absolutely do need a passport.  If you go by sea, a passport is not required by law yet, but many cruise lines do require their passengers to have them...so call the cruise line and ask.  See website below to read the law and 2nd website for all passport info.

  8. You don't need a visa, but I think the new rules state that you must have a US Passport. The birth certificate is no longer enough. There are huge waits right now to get a passport, so be sure you leave enough time to receive it before you leave for your trip to Mexico.
