Do I need a Visa to enter New Zealand (I'm from US) in this situation?

So I'm going late this fall to NZ to do some volunteer work.. that is, working only in exchange for room/board. Now I'm pretty sure all I need is a passport and that will give me 3 months maximum there... but since I'm doing non-paid volunteer work, will I need a special kind of visa?

p.s. it's through an organization called helpexchange (helpx.net)

  1. Yes, even if you were not doing any work, you would need a visitor's visa.

  2. you should not need a work visa because you will not be getting paid. but u do need a visa and that will b on your passport

  3. Basically you need a Visa whether you are working or not. Many, many, MANY people I have seen at the airports (I go to NZ for about 5 months every year) try to go without Visas. It just ends badly. Get yourself a Visa, and even if your trip is shorter, for one reason or another, than you expected, you still have back up. Enjoy your trip!

PS- If you don't know, the candy is awesome. Haha you probably do. Just bring back lots, so worth it.

  4. yeah

  5. Yes you will - the organization that you are working through should be able to tell you everything that you need to go there. If they can't offer you that help than do research into the company - cause most companies will help you organize visa's of you are working for them

  6. i dont know
