Question:

Do I need a Visa to enter the US as tourist?

I am from Greece, but I am currently living in London.

I am planning to go to New York for holidays, but I heard that I would have to get a visa.

How is that done? Do I have to get the visa from my home country's (i.e. Greece) US embassy, or can I arrange that with the US embassy in London?

Thanks in advance for your time.

  1. Greece is the only country of the original 15 nations of the European Union prior to the May 1, 2004 enlargement whose citizens REQUIRE A VISA to enter the United States....So basically you need to fill out some paper work and make your appointment with the US embassy in GREECE. The website you might want to look at is http://www.uscis.gov

But they make things as complicated as possible to navigate around so expect to be confused. Good luck! The below link is where you can make your visa appointment. Remember it is a minimum of 1 month process so make your appointment ASAP so that you can get a MARCH appointment. Another tip: You are assumed by the US government to be emigrating to the USA. It is your job to provide the necessary documents that will convince the US embassy that you DO NOT intend to stay permanently. Proof you need to bring to the embassy include things like (proof of a stable job with proof of income, that you are the owner of a house, that you own a car, operate a business, go to school in Greece, etc. Basically they want to see BILLS so that they are convinced you intend on returning to your home country of GREECE). P.S. You are lucky you are from a nice country, people from Mexico and muslim nations have a 99% chance of being denied for a B2 visitor visa! My girlfriend is from Mexico and she was denied twice so we are getting married through a K1 Visa which is undeniable!

  2. I believe that Greece is a passport only country and no visa is required to enter.  Mostly ex communist countries under the former Soviet Union and some Asian countries require a visa to enter.  call the US embassie in London to find out for sure.

  3. Greek citizens must have visas to travel to the US.  You could apply in London as long as you are a legal resident there (not just a visitor); London does not usually accept applications for visas from anyone who doesn't live there.

It is done this way in London:

    and this way in Athens:

    Kalos irthate stin Ameriki.

  4. I didn't know greeks needed visas to get into the US. Strange, but good to know.
