Do I need a battery back up for my plasma tv?

Only if you live in an area subject to frequency power changes.  Plasmas are not harmed by turning on and off, but any electronic component is sensitive to power surges and "brownout" (reduced line voltage).  A good battery back-up unit will cut the power to the TV if the voltage goes below or above certain levels, and that can be valuable protection.

Battery back up is not required under any conditions for any tv whether lcd plasma or any other make. That is required for storing programs in the tuner and other settings, and for that built in battery backup is provided.
