Do I need a birth certificate and a passport to cross the border to TJ?

I am a US citizen, and I have my driver's license and passport. Tripple A just told me on the phone that I have to have a birth certificate plus my passport to cross the border into Tijuana. Is that true? I will be driving not flying.

i went not too long ago .. all i took was my DL

All you need is your passport.  You can leave your birth certificate at home.
