Question:

Do I need a business license to have a little dance studio in my home?

If so, would the costs to license it be worth it if I just want to be a small little studio? I don't want to be huge. I just want to stay simple and provide a little supplemental income for my family. Could I just teach dance to church and neighborhood kids and be ok without a license? I plan on claiming all income on taxes of course. Would I for sure have to have a license if I do that? What's the process, fees, etc? Is it worth it?

  1. yes you do

  2. Licensing is depends on your localities requirements. Many towns do not permit buinesses to operate in a residentail area. Your main concern is Liability Insurance and loss of your homeowner's policy. Better if you check with your insurance company first.

  3. You need not only a license, but you need to make sure your home is properly zoned.   You need dual, commerical/residential zoning.

  4. Yes you do.
