Do I need a computer in order to use an mp3?

I am sad to admit, but I am illiterate when it comes to technology. use an old fashioned walkman, and would like to try something new. everyone is talking about this mp3 what is it?

A mp3 player is a compact device that stores music. its real easy all you need is a computer, you just plug in            ( depending on the mp3, some have plugs or some have the connection already intact to the mp3) in to the computer and transfer the music. its basically like a walkman minus the cds. My mp3 came pre-loaded with some music. It also came with a cord to connect to a USB port, and from there I can either download the music on the MP3 to my computer, or upload music from the computer to the MP3. The sound from that little piece of electronic equipment is outstanding!
