  1. Where are you?

  2. For the vast majority of Americans, the answer is no.

    State by state firearms laws

From memory, so DON'T take this as gospel > If you live in NJ then I believe you have to get a permit. If you live in Illinois, I'm pretty sure you're okay so long as it's a .177 caliber pistol and rated at under 700fps. Michigan has some pretty restrictive airgun laws, but I can't recall how they, or if they affect pistols.

There may also be local laws that restrict airgun ownership.

Has list of states/cities/etc they are unable to ship airguns. This might give you some indication.

    UK

If you live in the UK - Air pistols over 6.0fpe require a FAC.

  3. For most of the US, the answer is no. For Canada, if the muzzle velocity is over 500 fps, then the answer is yes. For Australia the answer is yes. For the UK, the answer is probably going to be yes, especially if the gun generates more than 12 ft-lbs of energy.

Regardless, you should probably check with your local police to find out if there are any applicable local laws governing ownership and use of air guns.

  4. Not in California.

  5. For most of the U.S., the answer would be no.  But you normally will have to be over the age of 18 and present your state issued ID or driver's license to purchase.

The reason being is so that the reliability to confirm the age level is taken off the retailer since they have the ID as proof.
