I'm planning on buying a used car from a private seller (I'm not driving it home, but I need my own car to get a NJ license at the dmv. My current license is valid in FL and its almost expired). I'm asking because when I buy the car, will their plates stay on the car and will I transfer them into my name?

  1. Your question is SO poorly worded, it is difficult to know what you are asking.   In what state is the car you are buying currently registered ?  If it is NJ, google the NJ DMV site and find out if plates stay with the vehicle or the (previous) OWNER

  2. No, you need the car, or all the info and a bill of sale.
