I'm of confused about my situation here. I'm 19 years old, I live by myself and I work. I know it's late and that I should have gotten my license when I was still living with my parents, but complaining won't help. :[

  1. You do not need a license to insure a car

In most but not all (Wisconsin does not require auto insurance) USA states, you do need insurance to get a car.

Of couse you need a car to get license plates for it

  2. First step get your license borrow a car from a friend for test MAKE sure friend has insurance on car. It does not have to have your on insurance. Most insurance co's will insurance car for any licensed driver with permission of owner.

Now that you have license go look for a car. If you buy off a lot they can get insurance for you. You may want to get you own insurance if you bought the insurance the car dealer offered. It will be a lot cheaper. Remember you had to have the insurance to get the car off the lot..

  3. yes,no,no

  4. Priority 1: You will not get a 'Legal' car on the road without

Legal car Insurance . You  don't need to own a car to get a

license, but have use of one, ( family/ licensed friend ) to

Qualify for license .   It is highly recommended that U  Ask

your parents for help on the  Cost of Insurance .  Your age

group is High Cost .  You have a job, & that is a Big Plus !

Insurance Cost : approx:  $1500.- $2500. or More !!!!  per

year !   Your parents  can get you a cost break, because

they will have a VG  record !    if you go to an insurance co.

by yourself,  they may abuse your ' Inexperience ' !  Although

Common sense will guide you .   " ASk  your Parents " / &/or

relatives !  They have been there, they know !

In order to  Help  your new  insurance "payments" thru

your parents !   It is Suggested : That you get a "Reliable/honest ", Room/ mate !   1 more  item, check your

state ,  New drivers  may be "Restricted to local area's Only"

for  your 1st  year !   This  might affect your job !

  5. It depends what State you are in. In Minnesota, you need a valid licence to got try perchase a car. After you take that car off the lot (new or used), you have 12 hours to have it insured. You can't have it insured without a licence. Also, alot of dealerships won't release a car without insurance. Some even have their own agents on hand. I guess what I am trying to say is a driver's licence is the first step.

  6. You get the license first, then before you go buy a car you find an insurance agency that won't charge too much and provide too little, just shopping around.  Then, when you're ready to buy a car, you call the insurance agency and they'll issue a policy immediately, provided you pay them.  I got mine after I moved out too, and then had to do it again when my daughter turned 18.

  7. well, the first logical step is to get a license. you can't drive without one, so what's the point in having insurance or a car? second, when you get a car, you must get it insured. and for the last question, you do not need a car to get a license. i'm not sure what state you live in, or how the laws works since you are over 18, but you may need to take some sort of driver's education class. check with your local dmv (department of motor vehicles) for more information. good luck!

  8. Hey man, i really think you should invest in some driving lessons. I think the prices your quoting for driving lessons are too high... the real price is probably around $30 per lesson. .. the your instructor would already have insurance. Failing that, i would get a less expensive car and get some really less expensive car insurance. The best way to get less expensive car insurance is to search on the internet. In Australia there is a resource sites that gives tips on getting car less expensive car insurance ...  a good website. I'm sure there is something like this in an area where you are located as well.

I've bookmarked this site to go back to...

    http://insurance.deal4-you.com

    All the best to you.

  9. You need a license to buy a car (they ask for your license).  You can probably buy auto insurance without a car but how would you know how much insurance you need if you don't know you're car's worth?  You don't need a car to get a driver's license but in many places today, you will need to rent or borrow a car to take the driving test (you have to bring your own car).  And 19 isn't too old to learn to drive; do it now before you get any older though, and make sure after you get your license that you drive around periodically so you develope your driving confidence and don't forget how to park and drive and all that stuff.

  10. Oh lord...

I found the whole process very frustrating.  I didn't get my license until I was 20 myself, and that was because I was living with my b/f at the time, and I got to practice and take the driving exam in his car.

As far as i can tell, the only way to do it is to use someone else's car.  You have to get insurance immediately when you buy a car, and you have to have a license to get insurance and register a car.

  11. what state do you live in? it depends!

  12. There has to be a licensed driver for the car so both can be rated on the insurance to set cost - I am currently the rated (and most common driver) of a car owned by a blind guy.   You do not have to have insurance to buy a car, but you have to have, in most states, insurance to driver or register the car.

You don't have to own a car to get a driver's license, but you have to take a car with you to pass the test.  For most beginners this is parents who drive the car to the learners permit testing and accompany to the final testing.

Interestingly, you don't have to have a car to have liability insurance, but it isn't easy to find. I had it offered to me when I sold one car and didn't plan to buy another for a year - carrying it was low cost and covered me when I bought a car instead of waiting in the high risk pool to see if I had owned a car without insurance.  It also let me rent cars without paying the absurd $10 a day addon insurance.

Do you know how to drive?   If not, call around for lessons - taking them will improve your skills and lower your insurance rates.    To actually drive, you will have to have a learners permit and always be accompanied by a fully licensed driver.  When you pass the drivers tests two parts - written and on the road - you will get a temporary license with the permanent to come in the mail in a couple of weeks.  Now you can legally drive any car the owner will let you.  Whether you can rent one at your age will depend on the company and whether you are male (no) or female (more likely.)    And you can go shopping and if you buy, drive the car off the lot.   I strongly suggest you join a credit union if you are not a member and look at the lower rates and fleet sales offerings most CUs have.
