  1. when you started the group you became the owner and the moderator.  My main group is 8 years old, has more than 2,000 members  and has almost 16,000 posts  because I was away quite often and had some other interests, I appointed a couple of moderators.  One was so good wit his contributions I ended up making him a co-owner.  So it is up to you  most important it concerns the volume your group is getting.     First posts of our  new members are moderated before the moderation is removed and that helps keep out spam and most nasties.

  2. Are you talking about a Yahoo Group?  If so, unless it attracts hundreds of people, you can probably let it run itself, and only step in when there's a problem.  In groups I've started, people have to write a couple of sentences explaining their interest in the subject before I approve membership.  That solves most problems to start with.

  3. you don't have to have a moderator- that's up to you. many groups don't have anything but the owner. depends on how active the group is- and if you're settings are approving posts and members- many owners can keep up
