if your going on a plane then yes you do need a passport.

there's not much hot spots in Canada not many people like it at all.

Ok, I live in the falls and as a US Native Citizen i travel over the border weekly it is not yet nessecary to get a passport to cross until June 2009 even then if your a New Yorker you can get a special lisence and that will count as a passprt to cross the border by land the hotspots in the falls are Clifton Hill and the Casinos. The fallsview Casino Resort and casino Niagara. A for giving you a hard time they never give me a hard time nor do they make mention of the need. But you need a governement issued photo id and proof citizenship.

While you can still enter Canada by car without a passport, you do need a photo ID and a birth certificate. The problem might be getting BACK into the states without a passport. Even though a passport is not officially required to return (yet), the border patrol is VERY picky with people without them. It could mean a LENGTHY delay upon your return. The falls are spectacular, and MarineLand is close by. There are shops and great restaurants, theatre, fairs, etc. You will have fun, I promise.
