  1. Yes, sadly, you do.

  2. Depends on how you enter Canada. You don't need a paspport when traveling by "LAND or SEA" (TILL JUNE 2009) You need a government issued photo ID such as a driver's license and birth certificate.

You are required to hold a valid passport if you travel by AIR.

  3. According to US department of state, you need to either present

    (a) a passport, passport card  or WHTI-compliant document

    (b) a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, along with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate

More info available in this website:

  4. You do not need a passport to go to Canada.

You just need to let them check your luggage on the way out.

  5. No, you just need your birth certificate

  6. Not to get in.  Anyone going into canada shouldn't come back.  canada isn't a real country.

  7. If you are traveling via land, you do not need a passport at the current time.  You will need proof of US Citizenship, usually a birth certificate, and a government issued photo id (Usually a drivers license.)

If you are traveling via air, however, you will need a passport.

the US has a Western Hemisphere Travel initiative, that has required passports for foreign travel to Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. It is being phased in, but the final phase has been delayed until next summer (2009) which means this summer, border crossings via land will be possible.

But they are more careful, and you WILL need the documentation that I suggested.   I have included the link to the State Department's web site on this- so that you can see the official word for yourself.

  8. Yes you do need a passport or ID. You always need passports when going to another country. At the border you will drive by a window and the officer will look at your passports and register them. He/She'll probably ask you a couple of questions as well. But if you have an American passport, I don't think they'd do much more than that.

  9. No passport is required. Just have a drivers license or other form of ID
