  1. if out of the U.S then yes

  2. I would call Carnival directly.  It depends on where you are going!  My sister does not have a passport yet and had been on a ton of Carnival cruises.  It is a good idea to get one soon though!

  3. Depends on when you're going.  If it's this summer, and you're on Carnival, you can manage without.

But this is expected to change June 2009.

That said, it's a little risky to be without.  If by some awful chance you miss the ship you'd have a hard time getting back from the Bahamas.  Even now, you need a passport to fly

BTW, they're good for 10 years.

FYI, if you only travel to the Caribbean, Mexico and Canada, the State Department has introduced a lower-priced "Passport Card".

An article specifically on cruises and passport options:

  4. Passports are not needed for sea travel yet. See site below to see that you need a phto I.D. and a proof of citizenship..EITHER a passport OR  a birth certificate.  NOW...some cruise lines like all passengers to have passports, so it is wise to call them and ask their policy.

  5. YES you do need a passport for cruise travel.  As of Dec. 2006 they now require you have it.  Even though the government website says you don't you do.  I was just on a cruise and they made us have them to even book a cruise with them.

  6. no
