  1. hi you

if your travailing from main land Ireland to main land UK and you dont have an Irish or UK passport you will need a passport do be careful if your trying to travailing and trying your luck as spot checks or done

  2. yep u need it for identity purposes

  3. No, nor vice versa.

  4. Depends how you're getting there.  If you're flying you'll need a passport or other type of photo ID.

  5. Not nessesarily but if you are flying you will need some sort of photo ID, either your passport or a photo drivers licence.

  6. Nah, Im always hopping on the stena line from Dublin over to Hollyhead they do prefer a passport but if you only have photo id they'd probably still let ya.

  7. No but you will need photo ID. NB if you are travelling with Ryanair you need a passport. Aer lingus only require photo ID. By boat only photo ID is needed.

  8. i think it depends what part of ireland you're going to.  you'd be safest taking your passport just incase.

  9. Yes.  It is for identification purposes only though and although you wont require it for leaving the country, you will most likely have to show it as a form of id when returning.  My husband is an hgv driver and has occasional work in Ireland.  He didn't take his passport on one occasion and they wouldn't let him back through the docks to start his return journey home.  I had to fax over a copy to the docks office before they would let him move.  Take it with you just to be 100% certain that you're getting back into the country and not encountering problems.

It's all very well giving me 2 thumbs downs - I'm telling you what happened by personal experience.

  10. Your nationality?

A common travel area is in existence between Ireland and the UK (including the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man).

The Common Travel Area means that there are no passport controls in operation for Irish and UK citizens travelling between the two countries.

You must, however, carry an acceptable form of photo-identification:

    A - driver's licence

    B - national ID card

    C - Garda ID

  11. Only if you're going with Ryanair

  12. nope

  13. Of course you do. You can sort it all out through the local post office. Get cracking.
