Question:

Do I need a passport to travel by land to Mexico?

I am planning to go to a wedding July 2, 2008 and need to know if I need to hurry up and get my passport. I heard of bringing a birth certificate and mine is the blue and pink one that the court house gave me along with a government picture I.D. It is not embossed with anything put does have a date stamp and a signature. I just cannot find any websites stating you have to have your passport and some say starting January 2008 and that has already passed. This was a spur of the moment type situation.

Thank you so much for your answers in advance. :)

  1. No you do not need passport to go to mexico, but will need photo i.d. and birth cert. to get tourist permit.  you will need a state id with photo and birth cert. to get back in the United States. Tourist permit is $23.00 usd and is good for 180 days or you can get one for free but last only for 7 days and you must and i repeat must be out Mexico when expired or mexico will give you a big fine. you must also  buy  Mexico car insurance for your car if driving into Mexico.  been doing it for 9 years now.

  4. YES you need one.

  5. yes, need a passport to any country, and so you need to apply for one because if you go like that, the police in the road will stop you and ask you for passport, there are check spots in roads of mexico, so you can come back to the U.S. like this but not to mexico.
