  1. Yes, this is new of about a year or two ago. Mexico and Canada now need passports.

  2. the first two people are wrong.. I cross the border everyday and I don't need a passport to go INTO MEXICO. To get back into the US you need proof of citizship and identity (which a Passport will do) but if you don't have a passport then a combination of IDs will work, like state license plus birth certificate...

To go INTO mexico you need you birth crefiticate and ID so you can get your tourist visa, a passport works fine but if you don't have it don't worry,  the guy aboce me is right.

THE NEW RULES AFFECT YOUR ENTRANCE IN THE UNITED STATES, not Mexico.

  3. If you want to travel to Mexico or Canada you need a passport at the border.

  4. To travel by land no you do not need a passport to travel to Mexico but it does make it easier. The law really does not go into effect intil 09'. If you are flying or taking a boat then yes you will need a passport. To find out all your requirments go to the website I have provided below.

  5. No.  If you FLY in and out you need one but currently if you enter by land or sea you need a government-issued photo ID and a certified copy of your birth certificate.

Passport for land entry is tentatively slated to be necessary June 1, 2009.

This is true for Canada as well.

  6. "The free T" is correct.  The requirement for passports for LAND travel to Mexico has no set date , but will probably be summer 2009.  see site below and read top half of page carefully for current info.

  7. you need a passport to leave the country no matter what.
