Our family is going on a cruise in September for my second to oldest sister's wedding. She's getting married on the cruise and the reception is on the beach in San Juan. Question, do I need a passport to get into the following places:

1. San Juan, Puerto Rico

2. St. Thomas / St. John

3. Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos

Please help because I dont have one and I dont want to pay $200 just to get an expedited one. Thanks!

  1. Well, whether or not you need a passport to get to each place depends on where you're from.  For instance, if you are from the US you will not need a passport to get to Puerto Rico, but if you're Canadian, British, or from anywhere else, you will.

But there isn't anywhere in the world you could be from, where you could get to ALL 3 of those without a passport.  So if you want to go to all 3, yes, you need a passport.

  2. If you are going in Sept. you will not need to expedite your passport. My family and I are going on a cruise in the end of August, and we just did the stuff for our passports and we got them in the mail in less than 2 weeks (without expediting). Our travel agents told us that the turn around time has been very short recently. Also to see if you actually do need them I would check with a travel agent or something. We were told that passports are highly recommended, however our SS card, birth certificate, and some sort of picture ID would suffice for where we are going (San juan, Labadee, and St. Maarten.) Have fun, and if I were you I would get the passport just to be safe!!

  3. If you are a US citizen, you're going to need a passport. However, you're in luck, and you won't need to expedite it. Turnaround time is pretty fast right now, only 2-3 weeks.
