  1. If you mean New Mexico, it is the same country and you do not need a passport, to go to all other countries you need a passport.

  2. To walk to mexico you don't but to get back you do.

    NEW LAW started this year

  3. New passport laws.- http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbp...

    It is always better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. I always take mine.

  4. Only air travelers need a passport, but you may be asked when you return to the US a proof of citizenship. A birth certificate is ok.

  5. No, but you might need one to come back.

  6. I am an acceptance agent in minnesota for the passport agency. You will not need a passport to come back into the country. You will need your drivers license and your certified birth certificate to get back into the state. Here is some more info for you:

    AIR TRAVEL

    Implemented on January 23, 2007, ALL PERSONS traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean region are required to present a passport or other valid travel document to enter or re-enter the United States.

    LAND AND SEA TRAVEL

    The following summarizes information available on the Department of Homeland Security’s website.

        * JANUARY 31, 2008

          U.S. and Canadian citizens will need to present either a WHTI-compliant document, or a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, plus proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate. DHS also proposes to begin alternative procedures for U.S. and Canadian children at that time.

        * LATER

          At a later date, to be determined, the departments will implement the full requirements of the land and sea phase of WHTI. The proposed rules require most U.S. citizens entering the United States at sea or land ports of entry to have either a U.S. passport; a U.S. passport card; a trusted traveler card such as NEXUS, FAST, or SENTRI; a valid Merchant Mariner Document (MMD) when traveling in conjunction with official maritime business; or a valid U.S. Military identification card when traveling on official orders.

  7. I have been to Mexico and never had to have a passport. We were in a car and we were stopped at the border and asked if we were US citizens.

  8. Passports are NOT yet needed for Land travel to and from Mexico...read that site the other answerer gave you to see that you need aphoto I.D. and a proo of citizenship...either a birth certificate OR a passport.  Passports will be needed at a later date which has not yet been set but  will prob. be summer of 2009.
